How long is your shaft?
I'm still investigating installing a one piece shaft in my 383 LWB coil spring.
Of course, I'm hoping to find a direct fit and not have to have a custom shaft built. In my search, I found someone who had installed an aluminum 4" shaft from a late model GM truck. (Not sure what transmission) Does anyone have a one piece shaft installed behind a 700R4? What is the length of the shaft? Did you find a direct fit? Thanks.

Re: How long is your shaft?
Isn't there a clearance issue with the long shaft going through the crossmember when raised or lowered? Then the weight of the thing if not aluminum.

Re: How long is your shaft?
why a one piece? if you get good quilty parts like ujoints and carrier bearing have the shaft balanced it should last for along time i just took the oringal carrier bearing off my driveshaft about 6months ago. plus alot of driveshaft shop wont make a drive shaft that long

Re: How long is your shaft?
I know the debate over whether or not this is a good idea. I believe that when I go from th400 to 700r4, I will have to do something with the driveshaft. It just seems that a late model 4" carbon fiber/composit/aluminum shaft would be better than a two piece. Certainly fewer moving parts. Less rotating mass. Probably 50% lighter. A carbon fiber shaft should eliminate vibration problems from shaft whip
With the planned 2.5/4 drop, there may be some clearance issues with the cross member. So far, I'm more in favor of this mod than against. Just not sure of the length and whether or not a direct fit is available.

Re: How long is your shaft?
Im not sure of the length (i can measure later) But Ive got a 4 inch one piece shaft. Its behind a th400, and a cad500, so your measurements would be different. No issues with cross member, even with a 4inch spring drop in the back.
If you have the suspension hanging (ie truck on jackstands) the dshaft will touch the xmember slightly. no big deal. been running it for almost 5 years with no issues. J ________ CHILD AVANDIA Last edited by Jayss109; 04-27-2011 at 11:40 PM. |

Re: How long is your shaft?
I thought the 700R4 and TH400 were the same length.

Re: How long is your shaft?
I thought the 700r4 was longer but don't know. Anybody running a 700r4 and a one piece shaft in their LWB?
