76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

Hello,
My buddy just got a 76 1/2 ton for the motor. Would the gauges and bezel work in my 82?
thanks,
Harvard

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

I think you might have to use the printed circuits.... does the 76 have an ammeter or a voltmeter?

I am unsure when they switched to voltmeters... I can't recall if it was when they switched to HEI (which was 75) or if it was a couple years later.

Somebody 'round here is gonna know for sure.... you can always check out www.73-87.com, I'm sure the answer and a 5 page explanation is on there.

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

No, it will not work correctly. The 76 still had a mechanical oil pressure guage and an ammeter (amps) rather than a voltage guage.

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

1978 had electric oil sending... 78-up is the only bolt in for the 81-87(91).

EDIT: here is the info you want: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...achometers.htm

yes, the bezel will work. Just dont be surprised if the top left corner breaks off. Apparently thats a normal occurance.

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

If it does, just glue it back. The later (81-up) dash pad comes out further, and will help hide it.

Thanks,

...or, since it is free, take it all and keep the gauges and other parts that you may need in the future, i.e. like if the fuel gauge goes out.

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

My 76 has the mechanical oil but the voltmeter. I tried fitting an aluminum bezel from an 81 on my 76 and it wouldn't fit right. But if it's your friend and it's free it is worth a try.

Thanks guys. Just my luck. I am taking it any way. Just in case, I happen to know of anyone that needs something, or to just have extra parts!

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

The wiper switch should be the same. I have two '82s and they both have the switch on the dash...not the column. And the high beam foot button thing.

Re: 76 Gauge Cluster/Bezel?

I know on my 76 I have a junk yard 85 Bezel and it DO"NT work. Well' let me rephrase that it will work but it bends at a diffrent form . The reason why I know this is because the Bezel is off A 85 and the lower half is off A 76 THEY DO NOT CONFORM TOGTHER CORRECTLY.
