Have you checked your oil lately? I had the same noise coming from mine and it turned out to be the dipstick got tweeked a little on the way down the tube and was barely coming in contact with the crank, not enough to hurt anything, but enough to bug the hell out of me.

Could be a any number of things, you need to zero in on it's where-abouts, such as upper portion of engine(valve covers/heads), lower end (block/oil pan), exhaust, up front (water pump/belts/timing cover) or in the rear of engine (flywheel/trans). You can probe with a long screw driver or wooden dowel (broom handle) by placing one end up against your ear and the other end on different engine components while the engine is running, as you get close to the source, it will get louder. Once you get a better idea where it's coming from we can work from there.

May those who love us, love us, any of those who do not love us, may God turn their hearts.
And if God is unable to turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we may know them by their limping.

A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.
