This was found on one of my Chevelle sites. It might lead you into the right direction.

Re: Decoding a Protect-O-Plate??????
Thanks, I checked out that sight. My plate seems to be laid out differently. Here's how it reads. Anybody, please let me know what it means.

Re: Decoding a Protect-O-Plate??????
I could be wrong, but I believe the vin should start with C or K because I can't find anything that shows both. If your blazer is 4WD it should be K.
Also, I think the 8 should be a 6 (6 denotes blazer) K= 4WD E= 8 cylinders 1= 3900-5800 GVW 6= Blazer 2= 1972 F= Flint Assembly Plant 174994= build number V= Flint Engine Plant 0519= Assembled May 19 TDR= 350 A/T 175HP/4bbl K10 & K20 I'm uncertain about the rest, but I'm sure someone on here will know. Let me know if I'm wrong about the VIN.

Re: Decoding a Protect-O-Plate??????
The vin on my K10 also starts with "CK". I know all the literature says it should have a C or a K but it has both. On another note my C10s VIN starts with "CC". Who knows???!!!

Thanks for helping put all the pieces together, I was missing the date of manufacture, 5/19/72.

Re: Decoding a Protect-O-Plate??????
There was a cat on here that could tell what gears and other stuff by reading the protect-o-plate.

Re: Decoding a Protect-O-Plate??????
Did some more searching after I got home from work:
Y2E15 Y= TH350 built @ Toledo plant 2= 1972 E= May (5th letter = 5th month) 15= day of month (May 15th) I'm still working on the rest.....
