Re: Rally or White Spokes?
Summit has a limited offering from tire and wheel companies(quantity purchases).Do you really think the difference in cost is a bank-breaker?You should be able to get painted rallyes (car-style)for less.If money is the dictator,I`d consider used truck rallyes.Vendors sell them garaunteed true and I don`t think anyone here would do you wrong.I`d stay away from chrome in our part of the country. They`ll get rusty quick. We can`t do aftermarket chrome like in the dry part of the country.

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
Cragar "D" Lock wheels. $90 each (15x10) from Jegs. I like the look myself. I know some might think "the simulated lock ring is cheesy" but I like'em. I will be putting them on my 71 when the time comes.

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
I had a 81 chevy that came with a factory white spoke "rally" wheels. They came with the same center cap as the regular rally wheel but no time rings. I painted them same color as the truck and added trim rings. Looked really nice. Have not seen many of them lately..

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
I like ralleys, but don't limit yourself. I have two sets of SS wheels? I guess for a lack of better name, they came on my 90 454 SS truck and they are chrome. They are not bad, but I just bought a cop spec 99 Tahoe, same wheel except they are powder coated black from the factory!! I really dig those ones. I also have some steelies from a cop Caprice (these are cop spec meaning thicker than normal) these also are powdercoated black. I'll try to find this thread later tonight and post picts of all the wheels I mentioned above. Ultimately wheel choice as well as paint, engine, trans, etc is a personal chioce, do not build it like someone else, do your style!!

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
I'm not trying to limit myself, the white spoke and rally are the two that I like that I've narrowed it down to.

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
I noticed you said you are using 8x15 6-lugs.I thought the opposite or mixed.Do you still have 6-lug in back and 5 in front?I agree you should go with 8" all around so you can rotate. You want the same tire, right?I think it was 255/70?

Good eye tim. Yes, if you look closely at my truck pics I have 6 lug 15x8's out back and 5 lug 15x7?? up front. I used to have 6 lug 15x8 all the way around until I swapped for a 71 Front end with disk brakes. I was going to go with a 5 lug rear, but all the yards around here wanted $250 or more for a rear end. I got on our parts board and TxFirefighter sold me a set of ECE 6 lug rotors real cheap. I have them sitting in my uncles garage. I don't currently have any more 6 lug rims with good tires so I'm going to leave the 5 luggers up front until I get the new rims/tires, then I'll put the new rotors on. The rear tires are 255-70 but the fronts are 235-70, I'm going to go with 255-70 all the way around (with a 15x8 all the way around). I bought the two 235's cause they were only $40 each at the time and the 255-70's were about $60 each. This time I'm getting what I want. (I was a broke college student 2 years ago when I bought them.) I checked the rearend of the truck a few months ago (pulled the rear cover) and everything looked to be in great shape with no wear. New rear seal and fluid and it hasn't leaked yet. You've definately got me thinking about the painted rims. I could get them now and the $25 plastic derby cap set (it's el cheapo!) and get the beauty rings a little later.

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
Not the biggest fan of white spokes but they are easy to find and affordable.
I am running white spokes and new style chevy center caps. Eventually I will add some eagles or ultras when funds and availabilty match. Until then I guess this will have to be an ugly Hillbilly farm truck

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
It is going to be a nice truck, so I would do it right the first time get the best you can. Your truck deserves it. Chrome ralleys look sharp.

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
Just givin this one a bump back to the top. Thanks to everyone for your input. I actually found a wheel vintiques distributor only 10 minutes from where I live! (A place called Southern Rods and Parts) I'll have to check them out sometime next week if I have time.
I'm going to go with a Series 35 rim. It's 15x8, the 6 on 5.5 pattern, and they are the painted silver ones. I've decided to go just a tad different, with the price drop of painted rallyes I can afford the beauty rings....so I'm going to paint the rallyes Medium Blue Metallic to match the truck. My goal is the end of august/early september to have her stompin pavement again!

If I had it to do again, I would have probably gone with 17x8 in front and 17x10 in the rear. Note that I didn't mock up the clearance for these, so I can't say how they'd work. I bought the 15s because I wanted a visual match with my '69 Vette and wanted to use the same trim rings and centers. Found out the stock trim rings do not work with these wheels, but WV has the right ones. The center caps went right on. |

Re: Rally or White Spokes?
UPDATE:
I ordered a complete set of corvette style rallies with rings and center caps for the truck. I went with the painted ones instead of the crome, save me a little bit of $$$. I hope to order a new 700R4 next week... she's almost done...
