broken u-bolt bracket on 71 K10
i was under my truck today and noticed on the rear axle the bracket that is underneath the axle tube is broken on one corner, where the threaded part of the u-bolt goes through. is this bracket welded to the axle tube? has anyone ren into this? im not tsure how long its been like this but i dont want to leave it broken.

So,do you have the inverted u-bolts?They`re square on top over the springs and have the nuts on the bottom?I had the same thing happen on my Highlander and didn`t notice until I did my lift.They are not attached to theaxle,just hit with a hammer to loosen.I found another for mine.But,since then,I see OffRoadDesign sells a conversion to round under the axle to nuts/plate over the springs.They don`t like the nuts-down(hee hee,he said nuts down) idea because they reduce clearance,can hang-up,andthe plates cause trapped grit to promote corrosion.I agree,and I`m going to get some.It doesn`t coat much.www.offroaddesign.com
