In my experience, (93 suburban and 2 trannies in 6 years), it is cheaper in the long run to buy a new trans rather than rebuild the old one. Parts may be cheap but the labor costs are the killer. My 4L60E was less than $1500 installed with a two year warranty. Turbo 350/400's should be cheaper as they are not electronic. I put a 700R4 in my 68 for less than $1500 as well.
