Question Front dress for a BBC conversion? Make a ZZ502 look "OEM"?

Hi guys:

I'm going to swap a ZZ502 into my 1972 GMC Sierra 1500. I want the engine to look as original 1972 as makes sense.

The current engine is the original 350, It has power steering, air conditioning, etc - loaded.

Questions: Can I use any of the pulleys and brackets from the SBC on the BBC? Do I use a "short" pump or a "long" pump to use the stock looking brackets/pullies? Where can I get them without getting ripped off?

Additional questions: Any other gotchas about a BBC swap? I already found that Classic sells replica valve covers from 1972....What air cleaner did big blocks originally have on them? Was the intake painted orange w/ the block or was it natural?

Anyways - any help or answers you guys have would be hugely appreciated. I searched and read already.

I can't wait to get big blue rollin' w/a 502.

If you mount it in the stock BBC location, you may not have enough room to run a long waterpump. I couldn't do it on mine with the mech fan and serpentine setup from an 89. Maybe if you run electric fans it will fit.

If you use the original mounts, pulleys, short water pump and such from an original BBC it will fit with the BBC shroud. The 402 is factory colors and breather the carb is a 1411. The black BBC is a HT502.

Dave:

Great pictures - do you have more or any high res ones you could e-mail?

Do you know where I could get the stock brackets for a BBC without getting clowned on the price?

You did an excellent job on that installation.

You can buy new from any of the repop places, but you will pay, but a 502 ain't cheap, so consider if you really want a "stock" look and buck up. I used the serpentine system off a 97 BBC on mine cause I wanted the stock look in my 454SS, got the parts new from GM, cost can't be a consideration when doing a high $$$$ one of. PM me your email, as I have a 427 w/original brackets on an engine stand that I can shoot some picts of. BTW sbc and bbc does not interchange.

Re: Front dress for a BBC conversion? Make a ZZ502 look "OEM"?

I have since converted to serp setup. I went with the factory setup because it came with all of the acc. which are new or remanf parts. The only problem I have is it is real close to the rad so the OEM shroud will not work. I am running 2 fan in front a 14" and a 10". I am hammering out a new shroud to fit just have to git r dun.
I added the serp pictures. I figured it wasn't factory so I left it black. The serp setup came with the 105amp alt, new power steering pump AC comp, and water pump. I could have gone Scrap yard but then I have ??? age and condition on a new engine. Figure where to put the electric fuel pump and Change the trans mount when you do it or the first month it will be gone along with the carrier bearing. I went with the HT502 because I tow with the truck and the best range to run is 2400-3200rpm(45mph-68mph) with the 4.10 and 30" tires. The ZZ502 is going to want to run at about 3600-5000rpm. So Stall is in order for it.
