69 or 72 crew
well heres my collection of good parts that now makes up a 72 3/4 ton and my 69 cab. so now i got to decide if i want my crewcab as a 69 or a 72. but atleast i have most of the parts to start this project. cant wait to start chopping.
this when all though a long bed now should end up with a 5ft-2in bed when cabs are joined and suburban door parts and roof parts are added. |

Re: 69 or 72 crew
You sound like me.I have all this stuff and so many ways to go.When you build from scratch, you just pick a year from what parts you have(and what titles you have for the registered year).I can`t wait to see some cutting, either.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
well got my 2nd cab a 69 here and cut the front out and cut the back out of the 72 cab and got it on the frame . and streched the wheelbase 23 inches so far may adjust it once the cab is done and i start fitting the bed. it just looked goofy with the tires almost against the cab. heres some pics of where im at, going to get suburban front doors still and sqaure up the rear doors. and get some sheet metal bent up for the pillars between the doors and roof bent up to close up the cab next. and im also going to do a little more trimming to get both the doors closer together.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
well i was going to use a suburban door post and roof area to complete the connection between both cabs, but there will be a lager gap between the doors , so i will have to modify it anyway. so i decided to cut an area where the roof, rain gutter and the jamb area, as a sample. so i could have a 56 inch long prebent pieces done and join the roof and gutter area. then once thats done i will have the vertical jamb area bent for it. so i will have the pieces on tuesday.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
well i got my bent up peices of metal back 3 different bends where done and i got 2 of each and to fab up the jamb area and i will fab up the vertical one next.monday i got 2 71 buckets and a center console for 75 bucks even though there in grey tweed , and scored up all three suburban doors and an auto tilt column for 100 bucks last night, im only using the rear door for the sqaured post area on the truck rear doors. so still need another suburban rear door wing window. but i think it will work out pretty good.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
cool, i may need a hand im still learng alot of this. i normally do solid axle conversion and work allot on newer trucks. and im finding sheet metal is not as forgiving as box tube and 1/4 inch plate. and i have alot of metal to replace and add in on the giant floor of this thing.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
Mine has 4 full size truck doors. Rokcrwln built one using the suburban rear doors for the back doors.

Re: 69 or 72 crew
was a long bed, but im going to use this bed. it will be cut down i think about 20 or more inches from the front of the bed and pretty much bob the back of the bed. i did move the spring hangers about 17 inches back.
and thanks for the pics, just trying to get an idea how to finish the vertical jamb. |
