Changes

Went to several "junk yards" this week that I have not been to for at least 6 months. Two of them are no longer "JYs" One was bought by an out of state corporation that owns 6 other yards. They used to have vehicles grouped by type, etc. All the full size Chevy trucks and vans were together from 50's to 90's. They had a good selection of 67-72 PU's - probably 5 to 7 - at all times along with numerous 73 - 87.

Now the vehicles are all intermingled - Ford, Buick, Mazda, Chev Corsica, GMC van, etc. I walked about 10 blocks to see 2 67-72 hulks. I don't recall seeing any vans and only 3 73+ PU's.

Another yard has finally installed a computer and crushed all old PU's. Used to have up to 10 trucks - now they had 3.

I know they have to make money but "DARN" how can we have fun without old trucks. A fellow will have to start his own part out business to get good iron. Unfortunetly I don't have the room or the neighbor to do that.

I want the good ol' days back.

Sorry for the rant - Bob

Re: Changes

Luckily the guy that runs the yard two miles down the road from me likes the old trucks so he saves them all. I went down yesterday and removed a coil spring rear crossmember and associated parts. He has 6 or 7 1/2 and 3/4 tons in different years, one with a V-6 in it and 2 C30's. One cab has a nice set of red seat belts and visors in it that I am going to get for the '70 I'm working on now....

Re: Changes

If they save them and let others crush, everyone will have to go to the guy that didn`t crush.I know a yard that tells that to the mobile crusher when they offer their sevices.

Re: Changes

Which ones did you hit? Last month I went out to Meridian Auto wrecking and they where laying new gravel and had everything grouped by make. Give me a hollar next time you head out, I love treasure hunting JY's (as long as it's not during a Seahawks game day)

Re: Changes

Boone - Meridian was the one I was ranting about. The other was over in Bremerton. South Hill is still good. It's small enough that you can get around easily and he still had some trucks.

Re: Changes

Boone - A-1 has not let people in for over 10 years. I assume you are talking about the yard that use to be All Auto Wrecking on Hwy 7.
