building a TH350 for a 4x4

I am getting ready to replace my TH350 with a better one. I want one that shifts firm, and takes off good. Right now the one I have is sluggish it don't feel like it's slipping but it sure don't take off very good.

The transmission I am replacing it with was rebuilt in 99 and the vehicle it was in it shifted good and wasn't nearly as sluggish as mine so I want to freshin it up and put a shift kit in it along with a good torque converter.

Please suggest what torque converter I should go with and what stall RPM, the one I have now is a summit 2K and it's a dog. Should I go with a lower stall?

To make a long story short my Blazer has a new TBI Engine with iron L98 Heads a Comp Cam headers and it don't rip nearly as hard as it should due to a soggy transmission. I am open to any suggestions on getting this resolved

Oh yeah the K5 will have 3.73's and 33" tires

Re: building a TH350 for a 4x4

All I know is I had a highly recommended shop(in performance circles)do a TH350 for my`71 Blazer and told him what I had and what I wanted out of it.It lasted a few months, then self-destructed...it ate the clutches. It was set-up like it was for a light Camaro drag car.The next guy got it right and it was bulletproof.
Just make sure it`s set-up for the weight and traction of your truck. You don`t want the tightest shift-kit made.

K should have made a trip to ATI in Baltimore! They ain't cheap but I know that at least 3 of my old trucks haven't needed a trans yet.

Yeah,I should have.Coleman Brothers recommended this place,Tom`s,in Glen Burnie for some danged reason.I ended up (the second time) at a behind the scenes shop with no sign named Tom`s Transmission Service in Jessup. The guy was a wizard. His shop basically rebuilt transmixers for all the big shops, including double-A,honk honk,MCO.He did`er right.
