rear 6-lug disc from new truck...

hello everybody i know im a little scatterbrained with a few different threads, but i noticed that at some point around '99 or '00 gm started making some 2WD 1/2 ton 6-lug rear disc brake- equipped trucks.. while i know a guy could prolly get a hold of an entire rearend from a scrap yard (maybe.. they're kinda new) strip it and weld on new saddles and whatnot.. is it possible to just take the axles(maybe not even the axles.. 14mm studs?!), mounting brackets, calipers, and of course rotors and do a swap in place of old rear drums? i know that newer trucks use the 4 bolt mount for the bracket to the axle tube just like the old trucks, but im not sure of the compatability from the new to the old (ex.1968 12 bolt) drum-style backing plate.. hopefully this will spark the interest of a few people that for some reason just cant part with 6-lugs...
and as always, thanks for all the great advice and help.

personally, I don't think it's worth it.
neither did GM, they stopped doing it as base equip in the 1/2 ton truck
