Report Help!
Im doing a report on 67-72 trucks for a college class, and im stumpted. I want to say something to the degree that chevy trucks built America. I know thats stretching the truth, but it sounds good. Can anyone think of ways they helped, or what huge improvements they made to trucks or the world ? My thesis is "67-72 Chevy trucks paved the way for America, Comfort, and future trucks" can anyone think of a better one ? Its just a general 7 minute informative speech. Thanks!

The release of the 67-72 chevy's totally influenced the way people viewed trucks. Until this point trucks were viewed as work trucks only, but the beautiful body lines and user friendly combinations made the chevy cst's a truck that forever changed the trucking world for the better. People were proud to show off their 67-72's knowing they looked and performed better than anything else out there.

I think the 67's were one of the first trucks designed by a well known high profile automotive designer. Harry Bently Bradley worked for GM through the mid 60's on many of GM's most popular designs including the 67 Chevy truck. If you don't have the "Sport Truck" magizine interview with him by Jim Aust you should.
The late 60's were also a time when pickups started being widely used as a 2nd vehicle and as recreational vehicles. They started being equipped with AC, higher trim options and other comforts. If you look at GM truck advertising especially in 71 and 72 you really see them playing up recreational uses of their trucks. I think in the middle of the 67-72 series, V8 equipped trucks started out selling 6 cylinder trucks to meet the recreational and sport use demand. Well, my boy is pestering me to go upstairs and read him a book so this is the end of my report for now.

Im going to ND in 2 weeks. I will be about an hour from Bismark. Before this trip is over the Caprice will have another 5000 miles on it. |

Just to go further on that line...the truck itself and the advertising for it were the first ever to aim the truck more at the 'civillian' demographic. I'm sure someone could post a few of the ads in particular; I know I've seen some where they've got a guy in a business suit either getting into or out of a '71 or '72 Chevy (I think) and I've seen a few with women-references too.
Also, as far as the trucks themselves...not a whole lot of these were 'stripped' by any means for a truck of their generation. Some of the more loaded ones would compare nicely to some new trucks - power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, nice powerful engines...and with just a little more modernizations (say, a fuel injected engine, an overdrive tranny, the standard brake improvements, a new seat, a good stereo, and a bit more insulation) I'd say a '67-'72 would be really good competition for a brand new Silverado! There's a reason well-restored '67-'72s bring so much sometimes...

Hm that's interesting project1970, I was wondering how the muscle car craze of the 60's effected pickup truck design and option availability.
Yes, These trucks were marketed directly to women too. You can really see it alot in the brochures of the time. Good point. Ray, what's bringing you to ND?? where are you going to visit? Bismarck is BismarCk btw!

Concerning paving way for future trucks, I'd tie in how the present truck appearance has been so strongly based on the front hood lines of the 67-72's.
You could easily work in a discussion of the resto/customizing crazy and following that you are a part of on this board. I think people would be amazed to know there are about 200 very active people on this board and over 5,000 registered members. This craze has brought in all the major vendors selling custom parts and the classic truck magazines are flourishing. Sounds like a fun topic. Anyway you can record your speech and then get it converted to a wav or mpg file so we can hear it?

I was going to say the samething. 67 to 72 trucks body style is the influence of all Chevy trucks from that point on. |
