Stop wasting your money guys, now you can buy a new "old" 54
You guys see this yet? It a truck you will be able to buy that is al steel no plastic with airbags that is completely new. They had to get permission from GM to use the 54 truck body style but with a few changes. There won't be carbon copies and they will be built in limited numbers. They say they'l cost about the same as a fully loaded Silverado or F150.
There is a nice write up about it in the December issue of Classic trucks. Here is the site: www.southernmotorcompany.com This kind of reminds me of when Nissan rebuilt all those 240Zs and sold them as "new". |

That's pretty sweet but... I would have to drive it for 20-30 years in order to "restore" it

Re: Stop wasting your money guys, now you can buy a new "old" 54
it's not bad, though. streched cab, chopped, meets all federal emissions and safety regs, Panoz-designed frame and suspension, AIRBAGS, (the safety kind) smooth, no rattle frame and ride quality.
at first, i thought i could do one just as nice on my own for that amount of cash, but not really. i would like to have cruise control, though.

Hey Zumo, can you 'chop one of those with a variation on a more traditional paint scheme/wide whites and baby moons?
like maybe a green and creme two tone? or blue and creme?

Re: Stop wasting your money guys, now you can buy a new "old" 54
whoa, zumo. that looks awesome! sorry o didn't respond earlier. i was thinking some sort of modern take on the differing cab/fender color scheme.
but that 'chop makes me start to change my mind... i can't believe that's a chop. that's one of the best wheel chops i've ever seen! very convincing.

I've seen this truck in person!! It's awnsom, and the guy that build it is very nice. He and the truck were at the street rod nationals in Louisville, KY. The parts will all be built in the USA and be inspected by him and some other guys. Very cool project and probably weel worth the money.

Re: Stop wasting your money guys, now you can buy a new "old" 54
Too bad they are using a F%*D Moostang power plant. They almost had a new customer. My 54 is on a $30k budget and will have all the amenities of a current p/u, minus the impact air bags. Nice thought. To bad the "big 3" don't fallow the same trend.

i'm still very curious how the air bag setup will be done. if it's an all-steel dash/interior, i wonder where it will be mounted?
