Post I need opinions.

I am getting opinions on different parts for my truck before I start on a restoration. I have pretty well figured the engine, Performer or Performer RPM manifold and carb, ported stock heads, K&N filter. However, I need help in selecting the right exhaust system. I am planning on Flowmaster mufflers, but what about headers, etc.? I was just wondering if I can just clean up the stock ones and they will work sufficiently? What do you guys use on your trucks?

63 corvette 2.5" exit ram horns are nice and not expensive and are quieter and dont rot out and etc, etc

I gotta say, I like my hooker super comps a lot. Nice fit, nice exit angle, only one plug is a pain to get to.

I also reccomend the Hookers.I have a set of Comps.......again , nice exit angle,& they dont hang too low on my lowered truck. On the intake, I would use the performer....unless you are in the 9.5- 10 to1 range on compression,& have a healthy cam. Then go with the perf rpm. Good luck....69 longhorn.

I have a BBC and I run JETHOT HEADERS there ceramic coated and look as good as they did the day I put them on.And I used the cooper seal gasket top and bottom.If you got a good solid set of headers you could send them to JETHOT or AIRBORN and get them coated,I think this would be the cheapest way to go.

I'd run the RPM if you plan on a cam with more than 220 deg duration at .050 and maybe the new square bore performer if you are going to run a Holley. If you want to go Q-jet and stay below 5500 rpm, the regular Performer is just peachy. Unless it is 400+ hp (be HONEST here) I'd run the 2.5" 'vette manifolds and port match them and clean up the collector area. Other than that, I like Heddmans since they are one of the few that I am 100% POSITIVE will work with a 67-72 and NOT have to modify the clutch linkage. If you've got an auto, the Hookers or Thorleys are good choices as well. FOr what it is worth, I replaced my Heddmans with the Rams Horns on the Jimmy. I also replaced the 2 1/4" exhaust with 2 1/2" at the same time and the truck has never run as well. And it is QUIET both under the hood and outside with Walker Hemi Super Turbos.

Oh great, now I have more to choose from. Ram horns, heddmans, Hookers, Jet hot. I'm glad this is in the future so I have lots of time. Be honest? No it is not currently 400 hp, maybe someday? I don't plan to run a Holley, I have heard way too many bad things about them.

got a set of dynomax ceramic coated headers on mine.very good thick flanges at the block wont warp.just be sure to spend the extra dough on good manifold gaskets(ultra-seal by mr.gasket are good)and a good set of dead-soft copper or aluminum collector gaskets.are extra in price but trust me,well worth it.

Mike C, I got the Heddmans for the 1970 C-10 I'm working on, and I DID have to modify the clutch. The "cross tube mounted to a ball on the frame, and one on the engine. The ball on the engine was mounted to a bracket that bolted to the engine, which positioned the ball on the engine side directly behind one of the header tubes. I had to remove the engine bracket, and buy a pivot ball that screwed directly into the engine block. that works, but puts the cross tube at a fairly severe angle. Also, one tube of the Heddmans hit the frame on both sides.

I had a 4x4 which doesn't have the plate, the ball is on the block. Maybe they got you the wrong part #?

I did not have the same luck with Jet Hot. After 2 years I had them powder coated yesterday with a heat treated powder coating. they look great now but will see how these hold up. My Jet Hotted headers were covered with suface rust and rusting bad on the edges of the flanges. I do believe I would recomend Airborne. Ive heard the guy that has it came from Jet Hot. I do know for fact the headers I bought from Jet Hot were used. (Hookers).

I have Hedman and had absolutely no problems,good fit,no mods needed,no leaks,good sound
