overdrive
ok, noticed that someone mentioned this in another post. Did they ever make a bolt on overdrive for the ch465? I was thinking that I had heard of one that was factory and either bolted onto the pto output or the back of the tranny. I saw that Advance adapters or something like that had one but they wanted quite a bit for it. if anyone has any info that would be great and if someone has one that they would part with it would be even better. thanks

ok, well that is all that I wondered. With the low gears in the ch465 and the 3.73 rearend it is kind of hard on the old 292 at interstate speeds. she needs a rebuild pretty bad but I think im gonna build a 327 instead. the 292 has about 6 to 1 compression at the moment and a lot of oil gets by the rings. I know that it is not the valve guides cause I had the head redone after it ate a nut. they guy at the machine shop was cool and put in 1.94 intake valves for free cause those were a brand new set that was for a v8. had only run a short time and the v8 bent, broke, or burnt 2 of them so I got the other 6. plus I can pretty much garantee that I can get better mileage with a 327. it's gonna be a four bolt main block, 307 cast crank (can't find a forged, but the cast will work great under 500 horses.)small chamber heads casting #520 upgraded with 1.94 intakes, roller tipped rockers, and maybe screw in studs, headers, still deciding HEI or points w/ ignitor upgrade, aluminum bowtie '67 z-28 intake square bore, holley 4150 or 4160 600 cfm don't know on a cam yet, and flat top pistons. balanced of course, should give me around 9 or 9.5 to 1 comp. finished off with a nice set of stock chevrolet script valve covers. should be a screamer.

Gotta disagree on the gas mileage for the 292! I love those old I6's. My Dad had one,my brother too,and I have one in the garage that is waiting to get rebuilt and put in the truck. If you wanna get rid of it ,let me know, I will take it off your hands!!
