new mechanic?
I am in the process of finding a new mechanic for my shop and an applicant drove this in. While he was filling out the application, we were all drooling on his truck. It is a 68 and the only rust we saw was a tiny bit under the battery.Forgive the pic quality, all I had was my phone. Is it wrong for me hire him just because of what he drives?

Re: new mechanic?
If he's had it for any amount of time it may say a lot about the quality of his work. I would say from what you say and what I see in the area where you live that he must take pride in what he does and how he does it. It all else checks out I would say that he has made a good first impression and those are usually the ones that count in my estimation!

Re: new mechanic?

Re: new mechanic?
I've always been told that before you hire a mechanic, see what he drives. If he checks out, I'd hire him.

Re: new mechanic?
The man was very impressive on the phone, and showed up exactly when he said he would. That in itself speaks volumes. The fact that he drives a 68 seems to be icing on the cake!!

Re: new mechanic?
I was always told that great mechanics never have time to work on their own vehicles. Sounds like here is an eception!

Re: new mechanic?
Well most of the mechanics I know drive new cars so they don't have to work on them because they tell me they hate working for free. Just like most bodymen drive around in a primered truck or car all the time because they don't have time to work on their on stuff.

Re: new mechanic?
So far he has been impressive on his own. Driving a classic Chevy truck shows he has his head on straight. He ain't working for you yet?

Re: new mechanic?
Least the guy has good taste. You'd at least have something to B.S. about on breaks. Showing up "on time" for an interview is essential. Even 5 minutes late for an interview, and most of the time, you are out in the cold.

Re: new mechanic?
Ram man Thanks!! I'm always ready to show off the truck. GMC Jim the bumper is off of a 88-98 Chevrolet C or K pickup. I am going to be replacing it with a sport bumper soon. I can send pics of the bracket setup.
Bob
