look what I got

hi all,

Hope everyone hads a great weekend!!! I had a friend come over on saturday
to help me remove the bed off of my 69 GMC, we just started to get our butts in gear when my neighbor came down the driveway. She wanted to know if I wanted her 72 custom camper special, and she was going on and on what it had what it needs and a storage unit full of parts. I kinda of rolled my eyes because I kept waiting for the price, well it turns out to be free!!!
The out side is in good condition, some surface rust where her kids wanted to fix up the truck for her and never finished, this is less than 6 months old. the passenger side drip rail has rusted. the interior is good the seat is shot.
I was hoping for a tach dash and a tilt column but no luck. After charging the battery the truck fired right up blew some smoke and is leaking some tranny fluid. beats the the $1500 I pent on the gmc that had no engine, tranny and rusted out floor boards.

Ya know, you'll never get that past the Calif Smog Troopers. I'll come over the hill and pay you double your investment and drag it back to Nevada, I know I can clear emissions here!

I don't think you'll get a better offer for that old truck - nobody like those things.

He did call it a "camper special" I always thought "longhorn" was gmc and "camper special" was chevy. My dad always calls them camper specials, I've never really heard anyone else call them that though. am I even close??

Great score, doesn't really get much better than that!! .........unless of course it had tilt and tach

:
I think you could get a " camper special" on a regular lwb, in other words on a non-longhorn truck.

All longhorns are chevy, and have a 133 inch wheel base and a fleet side bed.

GMC had one that they called a Custom Camper... it was the GMC version of the longhorn.

On both chevy and GMC, you could get an option package of custom camper, and it was nothing more than HD shocks, tires, springs, and a sway bar.

Camper Specials were fords.
