Re: How Much Have You Spent
I look to have about $6000 in my truck when done , I did it a little different this time than times before , I always started with a $200 peice off $**t and went form there , this time I bought a solid original truck and am just gonna do a rebuild , motor and all new paint and body , I can do all the paint and bodywork myself which makes that part of it the cheapest part of the rebuild , it will cost more to rebuild the motor than to paint it , I figure with plenty of good urethane primer and use omni base clear paint I can do a slick paintjob for less than $600 as long as I don't count my labor ,
so $6000 in the truck is gonna be fine with me , I have a 1967 camaro RS rebuilt it about 5 year's ago paintjob was $300 and I turned down $22000 for it this summer !!!! I know the truck's don't roll that way but I ain't planning on selling either one anyway so it don't matter ,,,, |

Re: How Much Have You Spent
I got the truck from my old man - he did the body off resto on it. He gave the truck to me this summer and I spent $15k on it so far (drive train, new chrome, etc.). I want to get it repainted in a year or two. All said in done, I will have $20k into it.

Re: How Much Have You Spent
I'm probably at around $17k total since i've owned it (bought in 97) but that is 3 sets of tires, 2 engines, etc.
Now, in the spring when I start the frame off I'll probably spend another $15k or so. |

Re: How Much Have You Spent
Original cost: $7,000
Add ons including A/C, Power front disc brakes, and an overdrive tranny: $7,000 more. Fix everything after the wreck: another $7,000 Satisfaction I get from owning & driving a real American Classic- priceless!

Re: How Much Have You Spent
This is a very bad exercise. At best, let leads to a realization that we're generally a bit obsessed with these things. At worst (best?), it leads to divorces.
My truck is the Wallet Eater for a reason

Re: How Much Have You Spent
This thread follows along the lines of a "not bringing a camera to a bachelor party" kinda idea. Don't let the wives see it or you will be living in your truck!!! I had a converstaion with a co-worker that just sold his 72 Cheyenne Super and now has no more trucks. "You remove one piece, and then you have to go deeper because you can't cover up something else, so you end up spending 5,10,15K and more!" It's a disease I guess....

Re: How Much Have You Spent
$1200 in the blue truck. $1100 in the green truck. $500 in the POS 4x4 with the very nice 454 in it. $400 for a front clip off eBay from somebody I won't mention. BOY did I get ripped off. $100 just to replace a broken yoke that I couldn't find for months.
$50 in tarps and PVC pipe so I could store the whole mess since I don't have time to work on it anymore. :P

Re: How Much Have You Spent
I've spent a lot more than I originally planned, but still not too bad. I paid $1000 for the original truck, 2500 for the 2nd truck, plus other stuff. I must admit though I was able to subsidize alot with the sale of pieces I didn't need. I probably have 6,000 to 7,000 in mine...so far. Now I just have to get it moving

Re: How Much Have You Spent
Well, I have to admit, my wife is one of a kind. Not only would she approve of a new engine if needed (mines' a crate with only 20,000 on it); you know that A/C unit I installed? She bought it for me for Christmas!
