K5 Body Mounts

Anybody know of a good source for a urethane body mount kit. Stock height, no lift. Can a truck kit be used on a Blazer? Also, is there any reason to go with a factory style rubber kit instead of the urethane?

OE Rubber mounts are better IMO the poly ones don't flex enough and I have seen them bend the body mounts because they are so stiff. The poly ones are nice becasue they last forever and everyone makes them I got mine from Manes Truck Parts.

They list 2wd & 4 wd different. Anyone know the difference? Will the 4x4 kit work on my 2wd?

I checked out lmc for body mounts for my blazer for the 2wd swap, they list for a c 5 blazer is this how I need to ask for parts when refering to this blazer cause after reading some of this forum I thought all 69-72 blazers where k5. also I contacted energy suspension and prothane and they either don' make body mounts for 2wd k 5's or the reps that I spoke to doesn't know what there talking about. Please inlighten me.

I still haven't purchased a mount kit. I am kinda second-guessing myself on getting the polyurethane parts. Would I be better off going with OE rubber? I am interested in highway comfort and some offroading as well, but I doubt I will ever be extremely rough on the truck.

I did the poly swap YEARS ago and they are still working great. I think the poly will outlast rubber by a long shot. The key to installing poly mounts is NOT to overtighten the bolt. If you squeese poly it won't felx. I used nylon locking nuts to prevent the semi-snug bolts from comming loose.
I remember when I first swapped in the poly mounts my rig was WAY WAY smoother down the road and off roading too..ALOT less flex noise and road noise....
This was one of the very first mods i did cuz come to find out after I bought my rig only 5 out of the 12 mounts were actually connected to the frame

I used a 4wd poly mount kit on my 2wd. I dont really know what the difference would be. seemed to fit perfectly everywhere.
I got mine from Kenny's truck parts in Tulsa. the brand was Prothane and it was considerably cheaper than the Energy Suspension kit.

OK, I finally ordered my polyurethane bushing kit today. I don’t think that these kits come with any new nut/bolt hardware. Should I just use normal grade 8 hardware? There isn’t really anything special about the bolts other than their length, is there? I like the idea of the nylon nuts as well. I think I’ll do that. Thanks!

You won't find grade 8 carrage bolts...welll I guess I should say I could not find grade 8 carrage bolts. Ya know the bolts with a flat head..anyway I remember I had to make a couple of trips to get all the correct bolts and one of my bolt holes didnot hold the carrage bolt anylonger as it was wollowed out so I used a grade 8 bolt with larger washer to keep it from pulling thru the floor.
REMEBER don't over tighten the nuts to the point it squeeses the poly, poly won't flex if too tight.
I remember getting all the mounts loose and then used a small bottle jack at each mount location to slightly lift the body so I could slide in the new hardware.. to this day all is still inplace and have had zero issues with them.

Just got done removing my body mounts,Installed the new polly ones and will be installing the bolts tomorrow in my 1972 Blazzer,Some lessons learned for me were;

1. Order new bolts,half mine broke or were rusted to the old spacers.

2. I used a 5 inch grinder to grind off the heads of the carrige bolts and then used a punch to knock them on through, grind the heads carefully until you think they are thin enough,hit them a good lick in the middle. If they do not move grind a little more, this will keep a stuck nut from ripping out the square part on top.

3. And the final lesson learned was block,chock and set the emergency brake prior to jacking the Drivers side of the body, especialy if your drive way is slanted like mine, the 6 inch lift and the tree killer bumper are about two inches higher on my Blazer than my 02 F-150, and luckily it was only four inches away so there was not a lot of momentum,(no damage to either) I finally found something the FORD is good for! your body will move enough to kick the transmission out of gear DA!! and yes I am an idiot!

I will post some pictures as soon as I remember to Bring my camera with the pictures home from work.

That’s good info. I haven't had a lot of time to work on the blazer lately. I have been going out to the garage and spraying the mounts down with penetrating oil every day or two to make myself feel a little better. The plan is to dive into it this weekend. I really like the idea of just grinding off the bolts, seems more efficient. In order to prepare, do you know the dimensions on the carriage bolts? I was planning on removing at lease one from each side and taking them down to the local fastener store for replacement. If you (or someone) could let me know what I needed, that would save me some driving. Also, thanks for the transmission tip, I would have never thought about preparing for that!!!

I have the bolts on order,I will give you some specifics when they get here. I tried to get some locally but my local bolt vender could not find any unless I ordered a case of them(25) and I just could not find a use for them all. I used the prothane kit wich is what LMC sends when you order their pollyurethane kit,you can find it cheaper else where I believe.I do know you have like 5 different sizes of bolts, 4 1/2, 5 1/2 and like 9 1/2 all of these are 3/8 thread the bolts in the floor board area wich are 5/8 I believe and then the radiator mounts, I have not removed the radiator ones yet because best I can tell I will have to remove the radiator. hope to work on this over the weekend.

No, you shouldn't have to remove the radiator. I just did mine, and was able to do it without removing it.
