Dilemma
I need help! I'm going to have my truck painted this summer and I want it to look good when it's done. Here's my dilemma: I have a Cheyenne A/C cab with the headliner holes and cargo light that is not currently on my truck. It needs a drivers side rocker. The rest is mint. It is a low hump so I will have to cut out and bolt in my high hump. The cab that is on my truck now has new rockers and cab corners but has some small rust around the heater box. Should I bite the bullet and disassemble the whole truck, swap cabs, have it painted and put it back together OR tape everything up like it is and paint?
This is my daily transportation, not a show truck, but I have this sick feeling that I'll regret not "doing it right". On the other hand, If I take the truck apart I may never get it back together. I had a Suburban that i loved if it wasnt for the rust holes on the firewall around the heater box i wouldnt of parted it,kind of a funky place for rust.Id do it right,because im one of those people who will let it sit in the back of my mind and regret it later.why put money into something,if it isnt right?

The work to do on the AC cab is pretty minimal, and I would swap cabs if it were mine. I think that you would regret not doing the swap and then it would be pretty tough to go back. Time wise you won't lose much and you will have a more desirable truck
AC, headliner, and a cargo light are nice options to have! Jim

why dont you take some sheet metal and repair the rust hole. just get some metals the same gage and take a die grinder and then weld in. your goin to paint it anyways.

I would swap out the cabs. You will like it in the long run. If not you mightregret it and then you would have to go back and make the swap, then repaint all over again.

Thanks for the responses. Right now I'm leaning toward swapping cabs, I'm just a little nervous about putting everything back together, as I'm pretty inexperienced at "building a truck." For those of you that have done this, what order do I put things back in? this is my guess
 and I do mean guess)1.Wiring 2.A/C Heater box stuff 3.foot pedals 4.steering 5. uh, I don't know... dash pad, gauges, etc.. You would want to start with the dashpad, you'll never get it in right after everything else is in.

It's really not hard to assemble the cab. Take lots of pics or have a parts truck handy to refer to. I've found have one or more around as "reference" material extremely helpful. As far as order common sense will dictate this. Basically start top down/firewall in, and yes dashpad should be one of the first items, seat and doors last.
