Help please with rear shoulder belt mount in suburban
I have rear shoulder belts from a wrecked '87 suburban to go in my 86, so that my kids can have shoulder belts now that they are in booster seats. They like to go four wheeling too, and who am I to deprive them?
I have found the upper bolt mounting point (obvious), but can't find where to put the 'retractor', which looks like it needs two bolt mounting points. Any pictures or descriptions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bill |

2nd row is easy. I bet he means 3rd row. I never figured it out on my 85.

Re: Help please with rear shoulder belt mount in suburban
The most difficult part I had about doing it, was getting the old ones out. The bolts were rusted in. There should be threaded holes on the door pillar to mount the upper part onto. All you have to do there, is drill a hole (and line it up) in the interior plastic. The job itself was very straight forward.

Re: Help please with rear shoulder belt mount in suburban
Mine has one threaded hole in the pillar for the shoulder strap, but no visible holes in the metal for mounting the 'retractor box', which looks like it takes two bolts. It doesn't seem to fit down where the lap belt mounts to the floor by the door, and there is only one mounting point there.
If it makes a difference, this is a stripped 3/4 ton suburban, which came from the factory with rubber interior and no options to speak of. So there isn't any plastic to get in the way. I'd be nervous about tapping a hole to mount the belts, when they would be under pretty serious load in an actual car accident. There must be something I am missing; maybe under the rubber floor mat?? Thanks for the help, Bill |

Re: Help please with rear shoulder belt mount in suburban
Mine was a Sierra Classic 2500 series as well, so it was pretty well equiped, but, the mounting hole for the retractor portion should be there. The lower mount point should be there under the rubber. It should be a threaded hole. You should be able to see it from below, to know where it is. Hope that helps!
