rearend question
looking at acquiring a 1 ton rearend out of an '81 truck for my '69 1 ton flatbed. I have a choice of a rearend from a regular '81 flatbed 2wd truck or the rearend out of an '81 1 ton 4x4 truck. Both are stock but is one harder to make fit than the other? Are the lengths different? Thanks

Re: rearend question
Take a tape measure with you, one or the other axles will have different spring width, than the 69. I think you want 40 1/4'' .

Re: rearend question
from those years they should both be 14 bolt fullfloats with 10 1/2 ring gear. the widths should be the same if they are both single rear wheel. If they are a dulley than it will be 6" wider. like stated above gear ratio and posi ect,. could vary. and the spring pad width could very but if they are both 1 tons they should be the same. I would pick which ever one is in the best condition and has the gear ratio you want. You can always relocate the spring pads.
