no brakes...look now

ok well i picked my truck up today and when i drove it there was no brakes... to get the truck to even slow to a stop i had to down shift and seriously pump the brakes and then hold them to the floor! i am going to do a major overlook of the truck and bleed the brakes tomorrow but tonight i was seeing if maybe anyone had any ideas? hopefully none of the lines are rotted or broken... thanks guys!

Re: no brakes...look now

check the wheel cylinders to see if they are leaking if they are you should replace them and also buy a rebuild kit for the drum brakes

69, don't worry about price on brakes or steering or suspension.Try your local auto parts store. They should have everything you need. Some will have to order it but should be able to get it in a couple of days.

Re: no brakes...look now

My 69 K10 had the same conditions, new lines, and new drums and the master cylinder was what was bad.I bled them about every weekend and would have pressure for awhile then the pressure would deteriorate.

Re: no brakes...look now

just check for leaks or you wouldn't see anything visible on the master cylinder would you?

Re: no brakes...look now

The 69 I just bought in Sept had no brakes either when I got it home. Pulled the MC but it was fine. All 4 wheel cylinders were not leaking. The front brake line that goes across the crossmember to the RF wheel cylinder was severly corroded and leaking near the T block. The crossmember was packed with dirt and it was soaking up the brake fluid so there was no leak on the ground. Your line may be fine but something to check if MC and wheel cylinders are good.

hope you're dealing with a 1/2 ton... 3/4 ton and one ton trucks would get real expensive... real fast.
