inner fender question

i know this is bassackwards, but i am setting up the front clip on my 68 1/2 ton with no cab in place. the cab is not available right now and i want to work out as many of the new parts fit issues as i can (nothing else to do) right now. the question is, where do the back of the inner fenders sit height wise in relationship to the frame? looking at a friends truck damaged both sides i came up with about 1 3/4 inch up from bottom of frame. his was not consistant side to side and had damage on both fenders. tough question but some help would be great. thanks, pkj

not really a waste of time. there are several things that i need the front fenders for referance. with the suspension mods already made i thought the truck was still sitting to high. after mounting a fender i think it way be as low as i can go without the tires hitting top of inner fenders. that is why i need to find out wher the back part of the inner fender (the back edge that goes level) should sit in relationship to the frame. i know it wont be a perfect measurement, but should get me within a 1/2 inch either way. thanks, pkj

The flat part on the rear of the inner fender is 1 3/4" above the bottom of the frame, (pic attached for reference). The lip extends downward another 3/8".

If I had the right fixturing, I would assemble the "doghouse" prior to installation, (the factory did it this way so it must work).

hey jim, thanks alot. big help. didnt expect the pic, thanks. thigs are lining up and i have not found one hole on the aftermarket parts that i have to wallow out. from what i read the inner fenders dont line up worth a hoot. found a trick and so far all holes are lining up nice. pkj

If you bolt the inners loosely to the outer fender, then asseble the fenders to the cab/inner core support, they will fit fine. Trying to install the inners when the front clip is already installed and aligned is when most people have difficulty making them fit.

The above pic looks just like my truck, so that should get you close!
