Re: Lt1 Engine Harness & Swap

I bought an LT1 harness off of a board member who had it reworked by Speartech and it looks pretty good. I bought a different harness at a recent swap meet just because it had an extra few feet to the PCM connections but if that wasnt the case I would use the Speartech in a heartbeat. I guess I will put it in storage in case I do another swap.

Re: Lt1 Engine Harness & Swap

Ok help me out guys. I am to the point where I need to remove the wiring harness from the donor Caprice I have and I need to know if I can just cut it on the interior side of the firewall or does this junction come apart?

Re: Lt1 Engine Harness & Swap

you will have to cut a bigger hole and pull it all through.

I have been building custom cars trucks and street rods for a long time and my experience with Street and Performance has not been a good one. Call them with a problem with one of thier harness and computer set ups and see what happens. I have yet in at least 10 yrs. spoke with anyone there that was of any help at all. Even with the Ford mustang injection set ups which are probably the simplest of them all. A tag was torn off one wire of their harness that I installed in a 40 ford so I called them to find out what the wire was and got absolutely no answer!
If I were doing a gm swap I would certainly call Howell fuel injecion, very reasonable on price and superb on service, even years later with upgrades etc. You won't be sorry. PS he builds indy car harnesses and was the electrical engineer at chevrolet

Re: Lt1 Engine Harness & Swap

I used a Street & Perf. harness on a 96' LT4 I put in a 40' Ford Tudor. Harness was perfect, no VATS or EGR. They no longer rebuild OEM harness. Used a 96 Vette/Iroc ECM, they programed the chip for that as well. I tried a company in San Antonio, bout half of the sensor connectors were wrong, sent it back and called S&P in Mena, Ark.

Don't forget the steam line on the throttle body, the bung in the radiator has to be higher than the back of the head. Learned that one the hard way, on a brand new aluminum radiator.

Another good mod on install, is go with after market distributor, OEM had problems with condensation even though they ran a vaccum line thru the distributor.
