Inline 6 Mini HEI
I really dislike the look of a big HEI I have installed on my inline 6. Anybody know of mini ones. I saw ones for Chrysler at Langdons, but know I have seen GM ones somewhere else.

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
I hate the big cap too. I am running a pertronix set up. It repalaces the pionts and fits under the original distributor caps. Down side is you need a points type disrtibutor, upside electronic distributor with the Sleeper look

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
I have the original distributor, but fear that could be pretty worn. Guess I'll have to purchase an original style and then install the pertronix.
Thanks |

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
Do you think they make that distributor for a 250?

Part no 4762801 for the newer six with vacuum advance. Good ignition.

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
Thanks Fred,
I checked those out and ordered one. I asked their sales people for advice on a coil to go with it and plug wires. I'm hoping they can point me to both that will look close to stock. I may have to change the Mallory cap for a black one also. |

Yes, he seems to know a lot, but Woog, nobody can collect good information and make it available like you!
I've used your web links often. |

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
Both Woog and Stovebolt have great links. For the small cap HEI, GM did have one for the six, but I cannot remember what it was in. And they didn't make a lot of them, it's been years since I saw one.
While you're upgrading, I would recommend adding a MSD-6 box. My friend did that combo on his 261, made a huge difference with smoothing out the idle on a hot cam.

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
Fred T - yeah I've read about that small cap hei for the six also, I think it was in the '73-'87 body style trucks that had the six?
The guys over in the '73-'87 forum here would prolly know more about it. Thanks Ol Curt, I try to help sharing the information, cuz a lot of folks have helped me. -W |

Re: Inline 6 Mini HEI
I started a thread in the engine and driveline section asking about the GM HEI units for the inline six:
