71 K10 speedo cable
I've shadetree mechanic'd most of my life but I have got something I've never seen before so I thought I'd ask. When I replaced my speedo cable, I noticed another very short cable attached to some sort of mechanism with 2 wires coming off it. The longer speedo cable from the speedometer screwed into the mechanism that was attached to the short cable and the short cable screwed into the transfer case. Will someone tell me what the short cable and mechanism is with the two wires attached? Do I need it? What does it do? Did I explain it good enough??

Re: 71 K10 speedo cable
Sounds like the signal generator used with a Gear Vendors Overdrive tranny. Does it have a built in bracket to secure it to the frame? If that is what it is you don't need it unless you have the GV od unit.

Re: 71 K10 speedo cable
Definately not aftermarket overdrive. All I have is the tranny and transfer case. There are no brackets other than the crossmembers. I didn't track the wires but will. If someone will walk me through poisting pictures I will take a pic and post it.

Re: 71 K10 speedo cable
Bringing this to the top. I have a Jeep speedo cable that I'm using on my truck that has the same thing. I'm really curious as to what it's for. I was thinking that it might be for an electronic speedo hook up?
