Torque converter ?s
Hey fellas i was wondering. anyone out there put a locking torque converter in their truck? I know these things are accountable for great mileage increase (about 20-25% in general).
What woudl be involved in putting one in? i'm assuming it would be electrically controlled and such... this would be as a solution/addition to my quest for better mpg outa my bb.. i plan on a gear vendors unit later but i thought this might be a cheaper start... thanks for the help, greg

I doubt you can put a locking converter in a 400...the solenoid to lock the TCC on a 700R4, at least, is in the transmission itself. My guess is it's there in the TH350C as well, and I don't think they ever made a locking version of the TH400. Wouldn't surprise me if the 3L80 was, though...basically, the renamed TH400 when they wanted all transmissions to go through that name. Only for one year or so before they stopped building the 400.
Edit: A bit of poking around on google looking for the 3L80 shows that the Hummer used 'em, and they did in fact have locking torque converters. So it may be doable after all...

The trans needs to be a locking type. You can't stick a lock up converter in a non locking trans
