Running rich - The nose knows?
Hey folks,
I just put a newly rebuilt quadrajet on my '86. The engine is running so much better than before, i.e., idle is good, cruise is good, etc. The only concern I have is that it "smells" like it is running rich. I've set the idle/mixture screws using a vacuum gauge. The choke came pre-set and seems to be fine. Question is, is the nose a good indicator as to whether or not an engine is running rich or not? Is there anything I can do without tearing the carb apart to check float height to remedy the rich smell or is a little rich smell normal? Appreciate your thoughts on this.
