Squeal

In the last 2-3 months, the blue beast has contracted
squealing brake syndrome. After applying the brakes about
10 or 12 times they start to squeal at the end of the braking
process. I have no problem stopping and they are not pulling
left or right. Its really not a problem...just sort of annoying.
I pulled the front drums and there is plenty of material on the
shoes. When I pull back into the driveway from a trip across town
I touch the front drums and they are warm but not hot and they are
both about the same temperature. I pulled the rear drums and they
also have plenty of material on them.

So...is this squealing just a consequence of having drums as opposed
to discs?

Also...what generally is the difference, if any, between a HEI distributor
and a breakerless distributor...is there an ID number on the distributor that tells exactly what type it is. (It has the coil in the cap).

Thanks!
Jim M.
