Help!!!! emergency brake cable

well i got most of the cable out except for the on connect to the frame by the steel rod, are you suppose to cut the cable that attach to it to be able to slide the rod out, i see no other way and just want to get a second "go ahead" before i did some damage

You should not need to cut the cable, the ferrule on the cable should slide through the retainer and then the retainer will slip off of the rod.
