coughing yellow truck
Where to start....sigh well every night on my way home from work my truck seems to sputter and cough and damn near die...The truck is warmed up and been driving great I've replaced the fuel filter and pump and had my carb rebuilt yet it still seems to fail ....I'm at my wits end here the engine runs like at top after I shut her down for a minute on the side of the road....anyone see what I forgot to check or fix? thanks for any replies

My 'burb was doing the exact same thing. When I'd drive it home (about an hour at highway speeds), then it would run terribly. It seemed like it was only running on 3-5 cylinders.
Anyway, it was the choke. I don't have it 'fixed' yet, but I do have the choke wired open so it won't do that. I have a long weekend this weekend and I'm going to see if I can properly fix the choke. Just a thought.

How's the ignition on your truck? do u have Hei? if soo check to see if the module is working good. Most autoparts stores will have a machine to check those. Also your coil might not be putting out enough power. If you have points i would stick a dwell meter on the system to see if you are getting good spark saturation

Mine was running terrible like that too, a few weeks ago. When I raised the hood with the engine running, I found that one of the plugs over a vacuum outlet on the carb was missing. Put on a new plug, life is good, again.

fuel problem fixed
It turned out to be a clogged fuel filter even though i replaced it the day before damn gas tank had a lot of rust and crap in it well its drained and cleaned out as well as the fuel lines(crossing fingers) I hope it doesn't start acting up again
