Tell me about tanks for air setup

I assume I need at least a 5 gallon with 6 ports. What size for ports? 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or 3/8?

The port size depends on what valve you are running. My tank has all 1/2" ports, so I just used bushings to step it down for the 1/4" compressor hose, 3/8" drain plug, 1/4" pressure switch.

The common setup seems to be 4 ports on the side for valve, a port on each end for compressors, a port on the bottom for drain, and a port somewhere for the pressure switch.

A 5 gallon tank is good, any bigger and you will need 2 compressors. I have a 7 gallon tank and it's way too much for my single compressor now. I don't fill the tank, so it's not too bad.

If you have 2 ViAir 380 compressors (a nice setup), you can run a 7 gallon tank, or even do dual tanks. It all comes down to what you want to run and where it fits.

Here is a shot of mine mounted between the frame rails. The driver side is plugged, the drain on the bottom, compressor feed on the passenger side and the pressure switch on the back.

Zumo, I am running (2) 3-gallon tanks and they are mounted on the outboard frame rails on either side just behind the cab. They are concealed nicely behind the bedsides so they cannot be seen. There's quite a few of us running that setup. The ones I bought are from ***************** and they have a 1/2" port on either end.
my setup is as follows:
driver side tank: front port=compressors (I have a tee splitting them before the port), back port=rear fill valves
passenger side tank: front port=1/2x1/4 bushing w/1/4" line to my tank gauge, and rear port I run up to my front valves. Hope this helps.

Mine is set up a lot like 67 fleet except I mounted my compressors by the cab because I love the noise they make (wasn’t thinking at the time) and mounted my 2 tanks in the rear with the rest of the management system…..the picture will explain it better then me 

My compressors are mounted where n2billet mounted the tanks, but on the inside of the frame. I mounted an led in the cab so I would know when they go on because I can't hear them with the engine running.

If I am sitting at a red light with the window down, I can sort of hear them.

What compressor do you have that is so quiet? My ViAir is mounted at the rear of the truck and is LOUD.

Thomas 337's. They seems loud when you stand near it and the engine is off, but my ghetto Cherry Bombs overpower just about everything. When I get the new exhaust, it may be a lot more noticeable.

N2TRUX - Do you have it hard mounted to the frame? It's hard to tell with the pictures. If so, you could probably isolate it with some rubber bushings, which will reduce but not eliminate the noise. I'm sure the people that build these compressors are not worried about the noise level, they're only worried about the volume of air that they can compress. Larger volume usually = more noise.

YORK is your answer for quiet fast filling. i a have one 8 galon, 8 1/2 inch port and running all 1/2 lines and valves, 1/4 pressure switch and two 1/4 drain plugs. and last but not least 1 huge helium tank
