steering box
I've got a 67 c10 and my steering box is real loose. I've posted a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. Well I tried to tighten it up but that didn't seem to work. Also somebody told me to check the fluid level in it but can't break the bolts loose not sure even if it was low if it would solve the problem. So I was wondering do they sell a rebuild kit for these or is it not worth the hassle. Should I just go buy a new one , they are very pricey or is there another model vehicle i could pull one at the scrapyard and use it. Or does anybody got an extra one they are looking to get rid of. Thanks!

it's most likely you front end components that need replacing. ie: ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, etc. I'd replace those first, or at minimum check them for excessive wear.

It's got all brand new tie rods, ball joints, everything but steering box and drag link.

Look for any side to side movement in any of the tie rods & pitman arm (off steering box). Check for looseness in the rag joint or any of the steering rod coming from the column. Check if the box is loose from the frame. Do this with the engine running. How much play? Stand outside the truck with it running while rocking the wheel back and forth. Measure how many inches the wheel moves from front tire movement one direction until it starts to turn the other direction.

Do you have the 67 style P.S. with the cylinder on the center link? Or the newer style? I think most have been updated.
