power brake booster, will it work?
saw this on ebay and wondered if it would work "1955 to 59 Chevy Truck Power Brake Booster Frame Mount Pedal Assembly
Chevy Truck Pedal Assembly This pedal assembly is designed for 1955 to 1959 Chevy Trucks. It bolts to the original spot on the frame. Comes with a 7" dual booster and master cylinder combo (for disc/disc or disc/drum apps.). This will work great and you can buy it for a fraction of the price of other suppliers" im just wondering has anyone tried it? i was planning on keeping my same drum brakes and all. i just dont wany to drop $200 with out some improvement. thanks |

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
Give us a link to the ebay auction so we could look at it. A dual master and booster will be a great improvment to stopping. Watch out for some of the off shore stuff as the quality is not as good. Remember this has to stop your truck. Brian ..

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
you say you want to keep your drum breaks, this kit looks like it is for drum/disc
or disc/disc. i would make sure it will work with drum/drum. good luck dave |

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
I used the same kit on mine. It's the proportioning valve that you use that makes the difference between Disc/Disc or Disc/Drum. When using this kit you need to use a 2 lbs Residual Check Valve for the front disc and a 10 lbs Residual Check Valve for the drum. The 2 pound valve is used in all disc brake applications and the 10 pound valve is used in all drum brake applications where the master cylinder will be located below the calipers. With this type of setup, gravity and vibration cause the fluid to leak back to the master cylinder causing a loss of brake pressure and a longer pedal stroke. Basically, not having this check valve can cause your brakes to give out. Installing this valve prevents the fluid from flowing back without causing the brakes to drag. This piece is necessary when installing any master cylinder below the horizontal plain of the calipers. Here's a link on e-bay for the valves.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-POU...QQcmdZViewItem

I bent my own lines. You can get the lines, tube bending tool and the double flair kit. At most auto parts stores.

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
Yep! The kit came with the brackets, booster and master cylinder. The rest I had to purchase. I got the proportioning valve from CPPhttp://www.classicperform.com/The proportioning valve they sell comes with the lines going to the booster already bent. Believe me, those lines are a lot hard to cut and bend then they look. The rest of the lines you can do yourself. Most importantly, make sure to get the residual check valves. They don't cost that much and you really do need them since the master cylinder set low on the frame.

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
if i use this booster can i skip the RESIDUAL PRESSURE CHECK VALVE because the booster would then be higher than calipers? im building for my son so p/b is a must. im also thinking of going w/ a mustang ll front end (or something like it). lots of ideas, im just trying to keep one thing from leading to another. last project was smooth as silk. so im do for a few bumps.

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
You will see a difference with the booster (better brake pressure) as well as the dual master incase of brake trouble. You can always upgrade to disc brakes later and still use same master just change proportioning valve.

Re: power brake booster, will it work?
Remember that you will need to replace the flex lines at all 4 wheels when you swap in the power, the old lines will most likely not take the pressure of the new setup. It nevers hurts to put on the new lines when making an up grade. It can be very painful if they fail.
