HYDROBOOST question

Do you have to run power steering with a hydroboost,or can you just use the pump WITHOUT the gear box? Thanks

Re: HYDROBOOST question

I can't see why you would have to use it excpet that the hydroboost is designed to let high pressue pass through it to go to the steering box. I guess you could block that line off and just use the high pressure inlet and low pressure outlet lines. Maybe someone with more experince will chime in.

It makes sense that you could bypass the steering gear box & just run the pump to the hydro-boost unit, but I can't see why you'd want to.

It looks like you have a 4x4 with bigger than stock tires. I'd imagine you'd be kicking yourself for getting rid of the PS part of that equation. I used to have a little Aspire, (econo DD), with no PS & that thing was a pain to turn when I wasn't moving or in parking lots, & it only had 13" pizza cutter tires. I can't imagine trying to turn a lifted 4x4 with larger than stock tires w/o PS. You'd give you're arms quite a workout, but if that's what you're going for, go for it!!

Later,
Buddy

Re: HYDROBOOST question

i'll tell you one thing, my 67 has manual steering/ manual brakes. I love my truck to death, but getting out of tight spots from a dead stop is a fairly fun experience. I'll be the first one to tell you to do your own thing, but once you aint got it, you learn real quick that power steering really is a convenience after all.

Re: HYDROBOOST question

I dont have power steering. I too have manual EVERYTHING. But with a narrower tire in the front the manual steering is great! Besides that,my steering box is fairly new as is all the front suspension. Maybe I will put p/s on if I have the pump hangin there anyways.
