4wd to 2wd

when somebody is converting a 4wd to a 2wd, am I correct in saying they don't necessarily have to stay in the same weight class? Example: Taking a 1/2 ton 4x4 truck front axle out and swapping in a complete front suspension out of a 1 ton truck, control arms, cross member, etc. Maybe just change the springs.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

planning on buying a '70 Jimmy 4x4 that I will convert to a 2wd. Also have a '69 1 ton that I want to make a 4x4. Thought it might work.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

OK,I see
...Converting the 1 ton to 4x4.You plan on using a 6 bolt front axle from the Jimmy and a 8 lug rear axle?Well,I suppose you could convert it to the HD44 with the bigger 3/4 ton hubs to match

Re: 4wd to 2wd

For the love of all that is truck man..... dont do it!!!!
But if you did, it would depend on the frames. If the frame was the same from 1/2 ton and 1 ton then it would be a 1 tone if tou swaped in the corect axles and springs, however I have never seen 1/2 ton and 1 ton frames that are the same. for our trucks I believe the 1/ and 3/4 are the same frame, but the 1 tons used th taller 8" frame.

Just to clarify, you could swap all the parts but if the one ton indeed uses a taller frame then your once 1/2 ton with 1 ton suspention would be more like a 3/4 ton with the hd spring package. I think that makes better sence

Re: 4wd to 2wd

Dont let the 8 lug /6 lug stop you.You can pick up the 3/4 ton hubs to bolt in in place of the 6 lug hubs .You will need different lockouts though

Re: 4wd to 2wd

I turned my 71 Blazer from 4x4 to 2 wheel drive by finding a 73 front end and just had to drill a few holes.
