Airbags up front with drum brakes?
I'm just curious if it is possible to install one of the front bag kits up front and keep the drum brake setup on a 69? If anyone has done this, did you have problems with the alignment? Anyone have pics of this setup? I tried searching but didn't find anything.

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
I can't imagine any issues, you just wouldn't get as low as you would with disk brake drop spindles. I saw a bagged drum brake truck on ebay a couple weeks ago.

I don't see y you couldn't. ***************** sells the front brackets for 67-87 chevy pickups. Why do you want to keep the drums up front?

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
I am concerned that the bags would lower the truck too much at ride height to be able to get a proper alignment - Kinda like cutting too many coils out of a spring. I don't want to kill my tires. I have a set of 2600's laying around and I don't want to spend the cash at this time to convert to discs. I'm just trying to find out if anyone has done this and gotten their truck aligned ok. I only plan to take the truck to local cruises so I'm not concerned about the drum brakes

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
Trucks w/bags & dropped spindles align ok so you'll be fine getting it aligned w/bags & stock spindles..... regardless of front brake type.
*EDIT* Unless of course you run the bags @ low psi/half the recommended ride height.

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
Does anyone have pics of their trucks with only bags upfront and in back with everthing else stock? I'm curious to see what the ride height would be and how low it would sit without modifying anything but swapping out the coils for bags in the front and rear. I'll pm farmtruk, thanks guys

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
I'll be putting my front bags on soon, (when the weather breaks, hopefully within a week or 2). I'll post pics when I get it done, it will be all stock with just bags put in place of the coils. No notch out back and with plates and cups in the front.

Re: Airbags up front with drum brakes?
Front bagged with 2.5 drop spindles and unmodified Suicide Doors cups.
Up: Down: Ride height is somewhere in the middle. Figure you can cut the front cups down enough to get that low with stock spindles.

Be careful. I just finished up the newest bag kit
from AirRide Tech on my '68 with drums all around. I had some slight modifications to the lower a-arm and aftermarket sway bar. The a-arm bump stops had to be removed for proper fit/travel. The aftermarket sway bar ends had to be ground to accomodate travel as well. If you have the proper tools you shouldn't have any problems. Better to be safe than sorry. Make extra sure that there are NO issues with sharp edges coming in contact with the bags through the entire range of motion. Good luck, you'll really enjoy them once they are in!
