Headers ... which ones?

Ok i have seen a few topics and read them that cover exhaust. My question is what are everyones favs? I love loud, throaty exhaust.

The headers i have on now appear to be long tubes and they hang a bit lower then i like under the truck so i am going to replace them with some nice ceramic coated ones.

What do you guys think i should use on my 72 with a 350ci ? I dont have much clearance on either side so i hope someone else here knows what i am talking about.

I'll go take some pics of how much clearance i have and post them soon.

Re: Headers ... which ones?

I would stick with a good name, Hooker, ceramic coated, as long as they have thick flanges , and above all , never use paper header gaskets, spend the extra money and buy you a metal collapsable or good gasket .
That actually reminds me, I pulled my 350 engine out and put me a 402, I have a pair of hookers ceramic coated super comp. headers , that are probably been used two years, I suppose I ought to sell them . might see em in the sale items. I do remember they were pretty costly though.

I'm very happy with the fit of my Doug Thorley TRI-Y's. They are ceramic and rather costly, but I like them.

Check out this link. I did a lot of research on this. The last few pics are of my Sanderson Ceramic coated headders, and I could not be happier.

Re: Headers ... which ones?

here is some pics of mine. the part number on summitracing.com is WLK-86118. i bought them from summit and i think they are a decent price but the welds on them arent great. good enough for my weekend cruiser but if it was a show truck i wouldve sent them back. i guess basically you get what you pay for. here are some pics anyways. one thing im happy with though is that they keep everything tucked up nice and tight.

Re: Headers ... which ones?

i just noticed the wonderful quality welds you get when you go to a muffler shop to get your headers hooked back up to your pipes....

Re: Headers ... which ones?

@67cst - I agree those do look nice and tight. I think i might go with those unless some one else here can give me some pics. I like how the flange doesnt hang below the body like mine does now. Thats what i am trying to get rid of.

Thx alot man ... huge help with those pics! Oh and from what i can see your 67 looks real clean ..nice ride!

@70cst - do you have any pics i can see of your horley TRI-Y's ? I hope so i would love to see them.

Thx again guys!

Re: Headers ... which ones?

alot of people on here run hedman ceramic coated shorties.

when running a lowered truck, shorties are the way to go, as they tuck up nice in the frame.

Re: Headers ... which ones?

I bought some Edelbrock headers for my truck. Although I haven't run them yet (truck is disassembled), I did fit them on the engine before I pulled it last fall. There are a bunch of pictures at the bottom of this thread that show how they fit.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=215994&page=2

The one thing I am really happy with is the finish. We'll have to see how it stands up but it is much brighter that some others I looked at and the overall finish quality seems to be better. During the fitment process, I had the local parts store bring in some Hedman's for me to try. They didn't fit very good anyway but the finish was somwhat dull and there were tool marks everywhere from the bending process.

Just my .02

Re: Headers ... which ones?

Hedman TorqStep headers work real well on a street truck.
Or at least they work well w/ my sbc, full length 2.5" exh. w/3 chamber flowmasters.
Quiet at idle, nice at speed.
