Right rear brakes sticking??

Hi All!

I just experienced the right rear brakes sticking and locking up today.
I removed the drum and found the top pivot point/resting point was very loose. I took everything apart except for wheel cyl. and boy was it a pain, the threads were very tight and it was not screwed in all the way. able to put some heat and breaker bar on it and after cleaning the threads real good and after a few hours, its all back together and works fine now.
I noticed some grease in and around the shoes and springs, but nothing looked freash....hummm.....

It appears that your axle seal is leaking grease over time. Before removing the axle, etc. and replacing the seal, check your housing vent. It is pretty common for the vent to plug up, especially in the nipple that is in the housing.
(If the vent plugs up, pressure builds up in the differential forcing grease out the seals).

If you have not checked the fluid level in the differential, it would be a good idea to check as the level may have gone down to where the leak stopped for lack of fluid.

Jeff, Once you looked things over and corrected any leaks, it would be a good idea to replace those oil soaked brake shoes - that could be another cause of your wheel lock-up.
