2 WD Lift kits?
Anyone know of a nice 2wd lift kit? My truck has a 3" body lift, but I would rather put the stock mounts back in it and lift the suspension to clear the tires. The body lift bugs me a bit...dont like the big pucks or having the front valance higher than the front bumper, brake lines streched out, etc...not a big deal, just something I was thinking about. Thanks

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
I used front springs from a 454 Suburban and 3" blocks in the rear for a
2-1/2" x3" lift on my Blazer. |

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
It can be done, my son had a lift made at AIM Industries, and here is a truck on Craigslist with a lift on a 2wd

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
Bulky, the first question is how big of a tire are you wanting to run?

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
On my 82 I had HD stock coils (1ton/454/Diesel) in the front and stock rear which levelled the truck out. There was no rear to front rake and no rear lift required. I was running 31x11.50s with no rubbing and 32x11.50s with only slight rubbing. 33"s would probably fit if they were narrow.. I had less than 2 fingers width between the 32" and the closest part of the fender while the truck was at rest. The only rubbing I had was on the top of the fender and inner fender. With 33"s+ you run the risk of the tire hitting the lower edge of the fender without enough lift or using 'glass fenders.
AIM use to make lift spindles but they havent for quite some time. Though I dont have any personal experience with AIM, I have never heard good things... though Eyegores son seems to have had luck with them. You could use lift coils but then you will lose any drop the suspension had and you will experience increased ball joint and tierod end wear. A lift spindle would be the best lift for looks and some suspension movement, but those are not offered. If figerglass fenders are added, 35"s can be run with no lift. For ultimate suspension performance coils overs instead of front coils would be needed, but this is a bit extreme.

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
Currently it has 33 x 12.50's on it. I'd like to keep those. Size fits the truck nicely.

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
Bulky, in the picture abovr of the blazer i believe it is one of the old fabtech systems they use to offer. My son did have his made (sorry no pictures of it) but I know that I never liked it, he never had the right shock combination to make it work right and it was shimed to the hilt to get the proper chamber. The front was so tight that it was almost like driving on those old metal roller skates, their was just no give.

Re: 2 WD Lift kits?
If this is on the 77, then the HD stock coils wont do anything for you as you most likely already have them if the BBC is stock.
You may also look into swapping in later model spindles (88-98) as lift spindles are quite common for those trucks. I am not sure what all needs to be done as far as swapping A-arms and such but I have heard of 67-72 guys doing this swap to get disk brakes. If you did this it would change your bolt pattern to 6 lugs, so you would have to change the rear to a 4x4 version, which may only be swapping axle shafts... I dont know. They make 4" lift spindles for 88-98s.. and with a 2" lift coils you should be able to keep the 33"s..
