Fuel tank in the bed?

Has anyone used a Mooneyes-style spun aluminum fuel tank in the bed instead of a custom under-bed cell or a Blazer tank? It's not any cheaper than a custom fuel cell, and certainly more expensive than the Blazer setup, but it looks pretty cool and you avoid having to fabricate a fuel filler door in the bed floor or side.

This is the kind of tank I'm talking about:

Re: Fuel tank in the bed?

I was thinkin about doin that for a while and still might when my budget allows for it. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard either. Just make sure theres some kind of grommets in the holes where the lines pass though the bed.

Re: Fuel tank in the bed?

I built two 19 gallon in-the-bed tanks for my C-20. They went from the stock wheel tubs forward to the front of the bed, and were 1/4" narrower than the tubs to maintain the '4x8' capability of the bed. The tanks were connected under the bed with a -12 an line so both tanks were filled at the same time, even though you only put gas in one. Also, with a tank in each side of the bed, it did not matter what side the gas pump was on. I know this is not exactly what you were looking for in a reply...but in short, those round tanks are slick, I like the bed mount idea having done similar myself. Go for it! Anything out of the norm is ok in my book...

Re: Fuel tank in the bed?

Yeah, installation won't be hard at all, and I can keep my spare under the bed. I don't plan on doing any hauling with this truck so I don't mind losing the bed space, and I'd lose it with the spare being there anyway.
