Wiring diagram for Suburban 70 GMC
I am in need of a wiring harness diagram for a 70 GMC SUBURBAN.
I need to figure out what is causing my tail lights not to function as well as my hazard lights. Just replaced all lamps, checked connectios at tail lights for continuity, replaced headlight switch. wanting to disconnect the rear wiring harness and see if the issue is in that section of wiring or if it exsists somewher else. PS: does anything to do with the tail lights go into the colume? I did some colume work a few weeks ago along with some other under dash stuff which is when this junk started. Thanks, Thomas

I don't think the harness would be too different from a truck's. Click the Index link in my sig and you'll find links to color wiring diagrams. Don't forget to check for good grounds.

Yes everything that has to do with the taillights goes through the column. More than likely the problem is in the column, I just replaced mine because the tail lights and hazard lights would not work....

Re: Wiring diagram for Suburban 70 GMC
As far as wiring diagrams the ones for a truck are the same for the tail, turn, brake, and reverse lights.

No I got mine from work I work at a parts store, so I got a Delco replacement harness. Not too hard to change unless you have tilt.

Re: Wiring diagram for Suburban 70 GMC
The switch is Delco #D6216 GM#1894852. It also comes with the adapter for the flat plug to the half moon style like on our trucks.

Re: Wiring diagram for Suburban 70 GMC
Ok so it has taken a long time since I first asked about this problem, I searched all over the truck to find the short and never went and pulled the steering column. So this weekeend I got a puller and did it.
Found the white wire to be pinched against the hub adapter and something ellse, exposed wires shorting out direct to ground. Taped them up readjusted everting and VIOLA, I now have brakes and turn signals. Now if I could just get the steering wheel back on. The teeth of hte shaft seem to be boogered up a bit from prior steering work and I am trying to go back with a mid 70's wheel as opposed to the aftermarket trash some PO had on it. Thanks to all that offered advice. Thomas
