Re: Frame clean-up

Thanks, I've got that, sanding discs, white 120grit plastic abrasive discs, those really remove paint, and I hope will set rid of rust, mostly surface rust. What do you coat the bare metal with, a primer, and then paint all at once??

I thought that once you wire wheel the surface rust that you can apply the POR-15 directly to the bare frame? POR does mean Paint Over Rust right?
I have little to no rust on my frame and am about to do this myself, I've wire wheeled everything down to bare metal.

POR15 can be painted with or without rust. It converts rust that's there while not letting new rust spread. You don't want to paint over flaky rust, but a wire bush to get the loose stuff off is all that's required. Or at least that's what they told me.

I am using only POR15 because my frame doesn't see daylight as long I keep the rubber side down.

Re: Frame clean-up

check your local auto paint supplier too the one near me carries it and with shipping costs its cheaper to buy local// it is far far better to spend a bit more to buy 4quarts compared to a gallon and read the instructions completely before using to get proper results

Re: Frame clean-up

I get a quart locally from the paint shop for about 30 bucks..... Couple of words of wisdom from my foul ups...use gloves as it dont come off anything it touches if your doing it in the drive way may want to put something down and last but not least do not leave it open and when you close it use wax paper inbetween the can and lid or it could dry and you will never get the can open agian...

Re: Frame clean-up

por 15 tends to fade real easy so i was told so you should probably shoot a coat of chassis black over it to keep it looking good.

Re: Frame clean-up

I just stripped down my frame using a random assortment of 3M stripping wheels, and various other air tool "bits" you'll find at your local hardware. I'm painting the frame now, and have sprayed three coats of Rustoleum "clean metal primer" and one coat of Rustoleum gloss black. It looks pretty good, although thin in some spots. Hoping another coat of black and it will be good to go. Should be some pics in my build thread by the end of the week.
