Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
The 10 bolt GM front axle is just as good as the Dana 44, the rear 14 bolt you have appears to be the 9.5" semi floating axle, not nearly as good as the 10.5" full floating axle. The burb would have had a Dana 44 front and an Eaton HO72 from the factory.

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
I don't think its the argentinian version pictured, look close at the doors. The one in question clearly has a burb 2nd door, and the argentine one has oddball doors with rounded curves on the corners. Plus this one has that blank space behind the door where the rear glass would've been on the 'burb originally.
As for the 14 bolt semifloater, wonder why someone would downgrade from original equipment?

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
My guess is whatever the 454 donor was also gave up the front and rear axles. I'll bet it wasn't an original 4wd and someone used everything from the donor.

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
it woulda had an HO52... the 72 was for one ton trucks only... or it coulda had a dana
The 14 bolt is WAY easier to get parts for... even doing a simple brake job is getting real expensivve on the HO axles. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 02-24-2007 at 07:15 PM. |

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
The Dana 44 was the available front axle. The 14 bolt is a very strong axle, a little on the big side and heavy. The 10 bolt axle would be okay with stock tires and normal use. Wouldn't be my first choice of front axles though. Interesting vehicle - would like to see more pics especially of the engine compartment and the rear of the bed.
Looks like the second leaf on the passenger side axle is broken and the main leaf looks bent.

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
Just to clarify, the rear floor area in Burbs of this vintage is marine-grade plywood.

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
Yea, I was going to mention the crossmember too. I'd check the entire thing really close. If they're willing to chop the engine crosmember, (instead of getting an oil pan that will fit), then they more than likely hacked other areas.

Re: 1972 C20 Deluxe Extended cab?
Looks like GM would have given us 1st dibs of having a Crew Cab option instead of argentina.
