Dana 44 HD Vent

I picked up a 44HD (circa 75) the other day I pulled the cover off and found lots of moisture and minor rust. Nothing major and the po had drained the fluids out a while back. I noticed this axle has no vent tube. I'm thinking it's worth my time to tap one in.
Whadda think?

Re: Dana 44 HD Vent

There is a hole for a vent somewhere in the housing, start scraping to find it. Usually can be found on the side where the tubes come into the housing.

Re: Dana 44 HD Vent

I agree. All axles are vented. The older axles just had a cap/nose hose.I used to pop those off to clamp a hose and run up high.

Re: Dana 44 HD Vent

I thought so also, however this one is striped to the housing and has been sandblasted, no sign of a vent or even a welded plug. I have another 44 with a vent on it so I know where to look. It's a open knuckle big hub HD44 so I knows it's mid 70's off a chevy. Oh well drill and tap here we come.
thanks for the input.
