hi everybody

Hey yall I stumbled across this site and have eagerly awaited activation lol. I mostly wanna say I really need anwsers alot since Im inexperienced yet just dumb enough to try and tweak valves ect by my "untrained" self. But I will try my best to not do anything really stupid. However I have been unable to find my engines casting code anywhere on the net or in books, the casting or engine code.

The casting code is 3310010 and the engine code is 1020CUB, Ive found tidbits here and there such as any casting number ending in 010 is a 350 and the suffix CUB puts me in one of three years. The date on my intake is from the 7th year and one of the CUB years was 77. How much should I trust the assumption that this is the original intake? Also can you guys tell anymore about my engine from the codes Ive given? Ive hit the wall and it looks like Ill have to drop the pan to check for 2 or 4 bolt mains. Anyway I was just itching to say hey and I look forward to learning a thing or two here!

Re: hi everybody

Welcome to the board. Looks like a pretty nice truck in the avatar pic. You came to the right site to get training for your "untrained" self. I've been wrenching as long as I can remember and I learn things here everyday. Don't hesitate to ask before you jump into something there are lots here that love to help if we can. Re check those #'s I don't have my books here at the house but I did a little checking for you as well on some pretty good sites and came up empty handed also. RJ22

Re: hi everybody

I think there should be a letter in front of the 1020CUB. The 1020 is Oct. 20 and the CUB is the suffix (you knew that). The letter preceding this is the plant of manufacture. I have yet to find that casting code, but I'm still looking.

Welcome to the board.

You couldn't have possibly read the casting number wrong could you? If it was a 3970010 it could be one of these:

3970010....302.....69....4 bolt...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2 bolt...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4 bolt

Sometimes the casting numbers can fool you....
Just something to think about.

Re: hi everybody

Wow thanks for the quick work, good luck finding it online, Ive also hit bookstores (no library) with nothing. I will recheck numbers anyway first thing tommorow. I bought this truck and was ofcourse told wonderous things only to find bullcrap hidden. The tapping sound that was supposed to be a doughnut gasket was a loose rocker lol. I wish he woulda told me that cause that was way easier than laying on my back and cussing while I wrestled the exhaust loose only to find nothing astray. Its my fault though I finally bought a stethescope thats the only way I would have ever found that thing. Anyway I think Im gonna need some help with this truck and Im freaking trilled to have found this place!

Re: hi everybody

Welcome to the board. Couple questions for ya, why are you going to adjust the valves? Noisy? I see there is a vgate shifter in there, is it a HP motor? Only reason I ask is if you are adjusting for noise, make sure its not a solid lifter cam first. They are a little noisy all the time...

Re: hi everybody

Is there a way to tell about the lifters without taking the intake off? Youll find that alot of what you may ask me Im still trying to learn lol. And yes I have this low rmp tick that is driving me crazy it stops at higher rpms though (or maybe I just cant hear it) I dont have a tach so Im not sure where it "stops". As far as the motor Im still trying to figure out exactly what I have since you cant really take anybodys word for it anymore. To make matters more difficult I lost all my tools about 5 years ago and Im still trying to coble together the basics. Im a great machinist but no mechanic-yet. Im hoping to learn from you dudes.

Re: hi everybody

Welcome Guzzler!!If all lifters are noisey,that`s one thing.If it`s a sole lifter,it`ll need adjustment.
