Turbo 400 never had a manual kickdown. Turbo 350 did. A 400 uses a switch that goes by the gas pedal to activate it.

Some of them had the switch on the carb.

Yeah, my TH400 has it on the carb. It's not an original tranny, though.

The 400T will shift down from 3 to 2 without the elect kickdown. The elect only provides a 3 to 1 kickdown,& I dont use it on the longhorn(4.10 gears wind the snot out of the engine on a 3 to1 kickdown)......69longhorn.

Here's my riggin' I made for my Edelbrock. I got a microswitch that's side to side actuated by a long spring wire. The wire rides in between the carb arm and the screw head. I used to use a penny w/ a hole drilled in it until I found the large flat headed screw.
I have found a couple switches w/ the bracket in the junkyard that were mounted on Quadrajets, but haven't tried to make one work yet. The switch is about 5" long. I found an original wire harness, too, but it was really brittle, so I had to splice it anyway. I saw an aftermarket setup, maybe made by Lokkar?, that was a TH350-looking cable setup that ran down to an electric switch next to the tranny, but I can't find the catalog right now. ------------------ '69 Chevy Custom/10 SB '74 GMC Suburban 4x4 '66 Mustang Sprint '77 Sportster

I found my Lokar Performance Products catalog. The kickdown kit was $62.95 in 1998. They probably have a web address by now, but I have thier phone #: (423)966-2269, in Knoxville.

I used the Lokar. Bought it from Summit. It works great. I also have an Edelbrock.

I believe the switch can be purchased at your local Chevy dealer. My 81 C20 had one mounted on the pedal from factory.
