pullin a motor

im looking to pull a motor and transmission all at once almost everything is disconected from the motor and trans its a 350/350 factory setup. im puttin it into a homemade mini-dragster sorta thing and i just dont wanna screw around with the carb so i dont want a carb plate. where else can i pull the motor from, and also a friend of mine was tellin me that i will need to pull the distributor to clear the fire wall, is that true and is there anything else that may have clearance issues? its a 71 GMC if that matters. thanks

Re: pullin a motor

You can use assory holes in the front or back of the heads and link a chain with a large washer on the outside of the chain link. may take some trial and error to get things balanced correctly. I personally do not use carb plate mount pullers anyway just don't care for the small bolts holding the weight IMO. As for the distributer I would pull it just to be on the safe side. It is your choice and can be done with out pulling but things can be pretty close and the may be breakage issues with leaving it in specialy with the added weight of the tranny off the back. There are tech threads in FAQ's section on putting the dizzy back in in the proper position after your done. my .02

Re: pullin a motor

All you really need to do on the dizzy is pull the cap.
